USC 52, Oregon State 28
Matt Leinart threw five touchdown passes and No. 2 Southern California beat Oregon State 52-28 in the Trojans' regular-season finale.
The Trojans (11-1, 7-1 Pac-10) find out today whether they will travel to New Orleans to play for the national title in the Sugar Bowl, or stay home and play in the Rose Bowl.
They were No. 2 in the BCS rankings this week. The top two teams in the final BCS rankings will meet in the Sugar Bowl for the national championship.
Pac-10 champion USC already had clinched at least a spot in the Rose Bowl.
Oregon State (7-5, 4-4) will play New Mexico in the Dec. 24 Las Vegas Bowl.
The Trojans' depth and versatility on both sides of the ball were more than the Beavers could handle.
USC scored 40 or more points for the seventh game in a row and finished the regular season with a Pac-10 record 506 points. Leinart established a conference single-season mark with 35 touchdown passes.
Mike Williams had two touchdowns catches, one a leaping, one-handed grab in the back of the end zone. He also got a hand on an Oregon State field-goal try that fell short, and made a crushing block on a run by Reggie Bush.
Bush, a freshman, also caught two touchdown passes. Steve Smith, another freshman, had 136 yards on five catches, including a 73-yard touchdown.
Navy 34, Army 6
Kyle Eckel rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns and Eric Roberts also scored two TDs to help Navy rout Army 34-6 in the 104th meeting of the two US service academies Saturday.
The loss meant the Black Knights became the first major college football team to finish 0-13 in a season.
Army has been beaten in 24 of its last 25 games and has also lost four of the last five meetings with Navy. Army, though, leads the overall series 49-48-7.
Navy (8-4) now plays in the Houston Bowl on December 30.

Quarterback Craig Candeto rushed for 58 yards, going over the 1,000 mark for the season, as Navy rambled for 359 total yards.

Aaron Civale got a little wild in the right-hander’s first start for the Chicago White Sox two days after he was traded by the Milwaukee Brewers. Civale on Sunday walked four of the first seven hitters he faced in a 2-1 loss to the Texas Rangers. The 30-year-old finished with four walks, one off his career high, while allowing six hits and two runs in five innings. He threw 65 strikes and 39 balls. Chicago trailed 2-1 when he was replaced by Dan Altavilla to start the sixth. “Not the cleanest,” Civale said. “It’s been a whirlwind of a week. First couple
Sergio Ramos on Tuesday outfoxed two Inter players and artfully headed home the first goal for Monterrey at the FIFA Club World Cup. The 39-year-old Ramos slipped through the penalty area for the score just as he did for so many years in the shirts of Real Madrid and Spain’s national team, with whom he combined smarts, timing and physicality. Ramos’ clever goal and his overall defensive play at the Rose Bowl were major factors in Monterrey’s impressive 1-1 draw against the UEFA Champions League finalists in the clubs’ first match of the tournament. “There is always a joy to contribute to the
DOMINANT JUVENTUS: Randal Kolo Muani and Francisco Conceicao both scored braces as Juventus made a statement in their opener with a big win over Al-Ain Phil Foden on Wednesday scored two minutes into the match and later had an assist to lead Premier League powerhouse Manchester City past Moroccan club Wydad AC 2-0 at the FIFA Club World Cup. City broke Wydad’s five-man defensive line early when Foden scored on a deflected cross by goalkeeper El Mehdi Benabid. Jeremy Doku doubled City’s lead in the 42nd minute off a corner-kick from Foden. Shortly afterward, an animal-rights advocate ran onto the field to protest Morocco’s treatment of stray dogs and cats. The man was tackled by security workers and escorted out of Lincoln Financial Field, which was just over
