Pat Burrell hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to snap a tie and lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 57th Hall of Fame game.
Burrell's opposite-field drive over the short right-field wall came with one out off loser Chad Gaudin and gave Philadelphia a 6-5 lead.
Nick Punto added a solo shot in the eighth off Evan Rust, and Bob Korecky pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
The Phillies scored four times in the second off Doug Waetchler to take a 5-2 lead. Jason Michaels led off with a bloop single to center and Marlon Byrd followed with a home run to make it 3-2.
Punto then tripled down the right-field line and scored on a groundout by Ricky Ledee. Tomas Perez followed with a line-drive homer to right as the hitters took advantage of the cozy confines of Doubleday Field. Center field is only 390 feet, and it's just 315 to right-center and 336 to left-center.
Rey Ordonez lined a two-run single off left-hander Cole Hamels in the fifth to bring Tampa Bay within 5-4.
Hamels, the Phillies' top draft pick last year, was called up from Class A Lakeland of the South Atlantic League for the game and seemed to be cruising to a victory. He entered in the second inning and allowed three runs in five innings, striking out nine.
But Antonio Perez touched reliever Frank Brooks for a two-out homer in the top of the seventh to tie it. Brooks ended up with the victory and Hamels was named the game's most valuable player.

From a commemorative jersey to a stadium in his name, Argentine soccer organizers are planning a slew of tributes to their late “Captain” Pope Francis, eulogized as the ultimate team player. Tributes to the Argentine pontiff, a lifelong lover of the game, who died on Monday at the age of 88, have been peppered with soccer metaphors in his homeland. “Francisco. What a player,” the Argentine Football Federation (AFA) said, describing the first pope from Latin America and the southern hemisphere as a generational talent who “never hogged the ball” and who showed the world “the importance of having an Argentine captain,
