After a brief meeting yesterday morning, the KMT's Evaluation and Discipline Committee (考紀委員會) decided to expel Hung Wen-hsiang (洪文湘), a former member of the Examination Yuan.
The committee also suspended the memberships of three staff members from the Australia head office of the party's Overseas Affairs Department (
In response to his expulsion, Hung said the KMT had been expelling its "real members" from the party, leaving only "inferior stuff" inside.
Hung was an early graduate from the Whampoa Military Academy, set up in China by Chiang Kai-shek (
The expulsions yesterday were smaller in scale, compared to previous action directed at Soong's supporters.
The KMT expelled 21 supporters of Soong in early December.
The Ministry of the Interior (MOI) is to tighten rules for candidates running for public office, requiring them to declare that they do not hold a Chinese household registration or passport, and that they possess no other foreign citizenship.
