Black-bristled sows on Tianshan Farm in Yilan County’s Sansing Township often get “humped” and put in the family way by wild boars. After catching a suspect boar, farm owner Huang Cheng-te had a strange dream in which the captured tusker appeared and said the culprit was not him, but another boar. Huang then decided to release the boar back into the wild, but asked him to go back to the mountain forest and tell his mates not to come down drooling over black sows anymore.
Tianshan Farm is close to the mountains, with big orchards all around. From time to time, farmers have spotted herds of wild boar sneaking into their orchards to eat fruit on the sly. They see them, but they can’t catch them, and it makes them hopping mad. Not satisfied with eating stolen fruit, male wild boar sometimes break into Tianshan Farm’s pigsties for “forbidden fruit” in another sense. On average 30 crossbreed piglets sired by wild boar and black-bristled sows are born on the farm each year.
More than 50 breeding sows are kept on the farm, which arranges for them to mate with male black-bristled pigs. The piglets they bear ought to be black, too, but some sows farrow piglets with long snouts, small ears and brown bristles. Farmer Huang, who holds a veterinary license, concludes that wild boar foraging near the piggery are attracted by the scent of hormones from breeding sows on heat, break down the wire fence and have their way with the sows, making them pregnant.
In the past, Huang has tried setting up traps beside the hog house to frustrate the boars’ intentions by catching them before they get into the pigsty. Recently, as he was patrolling the hog house, Huang spotted a male wild boar that had got into a sow’s pen, and he immediately blocked all escape routes. When his neighbors heard about it, they came round one after another to have a look. Complaining bitterly about wild boars that eat stolen oranges and get sows pregnant, the neighbors advised Huang to slaughter the boar on the spot and make a meal of it.
Three days later, a strange scene appeared to Huang in the midst of his dreams. The captured boar appeared in the dream and said that, after he sneaked into the pigpen in search of a little piggy honey for a spot of conjugal bliss, what he met instead was a big fat sow. He weighed just 100kg, but the black sow in the pen weighed 300kg. The physical difference between the two being just too great, he had lost the urge. He hadn’t done anything improper with the sow. As to the culprit who came into the pigsty every year to have his way with the sows, that was another, grownup boar, he claimed.
Sizing up the two animals’ physiques, Huang found that the boar was only one third the size of the sow, which would make things rather difficult if he wanted to have sex. Huang reckoned that what the boar said in the dream was not unreasonable and, soft hearted for a moment, he decided to let the boar off with its life.
Huang says that when wild boars break into the piggery and cause a rumpus, they induce the black sows to go into heat early. The crossbreed piglets they have later taste pretty good when they’re made into boar-wurst. These tasty sausages are a favorite with visiting travelers and have become a well-known specialty meat dish on Tianshan Farm’s menu.

Primarily one destination: the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Today, the cultural landscape has evolved, with the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum presenting a compelling alternative. Online retailer eBay has scrapped fees for private sellers across almost all of its categories as it attempts to keep fast-growing rivals such as Depop and Vinted at arm’s length. The move means eBay’s UK sellers no longer have to pay transaction fees, except for cars, motorcycles and other vehicles. In April this year, eBay removed fees for private sellers of pre-owned clothes, and the company said it was “now evolving the experience even further.” The site said ditching seller fees for fashion had already led to a double-digit increase in listings for popular items such as jeans, shirts and dresses, while at
City life moves fast, and escalators are a lifesaver for busy commuters. __1__ It is widely believed that this practice keeps traffic flowing smoothly and avoids congestion.
