The Health Promotion Administration (HPA) has launched an online Chronic Disease Risk Assessment platform that can calculate a person’s chance over the next 10 years of having coronary heart disease, a stroke, diabetes, hypertention or a major adverse cardiovascular event.
About 60 percent of the top 10 causes of death in Taiwan last year were related to chronic diseases, and resulted from the accumulation of long-term conditions, HPA data showed.
People aged 35 to 70 can use the online platform by entering the data from a recent health check report.

There are three steps involved in using the platform, HPA officials said on Friday.
First, a person must have their most recent health check or Labor General Physical and Health Examination report on hand, or information from the National Health Insurance My Health Bank service, the officials said.
Second, they must access the Chronic Disease Risk Assessment platform at cdrc.hpa.gov.tw, select “All Diseases,” or one of the five major chronic diseases, and click the “Provide analysis” icon, they said.
Third, they must enter the required information, which includes gender, height and weight, as well as measurements such as cholesterol and blood pressure, and click the “Calculate” button. The assessment is supposed to tell a person whether their risk is low, medium or high.
Advice is also provided on the platform according to each person’s risk factors and health conditions, such as cutting down on salt or alcohol, or starting an exercise plan.
For people who have excessively high blood pressure, blood sugar and blood lipid readings, and have a large waistline or are overweight, it is still possible to reverse the conditions, HPA officials said.
HPA Director Wu Chao-chun (吳昭軍) urged people to pay attention to “red figures” on their health check reports, as they are closely linked to chronic diseases.
There are more than 1,700 National Health Insurance-affiliated clinics and health centers across Taiwan listed on the Ministry of Health’s Web site that treat people with metabolic issues, offer health examinations for people aged 20 to 64 and have medical professionals who can create an individualized health education and fitness program based on a person’s risk assessment result from the platform, the HPA officials added.

If US arms sales do accelerate, it could ease worries about the extent of Trump’s commitment to Taiwan. It would also add new friction to the tense US-China relationship. The officials said they expect US approvals for weapons sales to Taiwan over the next four years to surpass those in Trump’s first term, with one of them saying
