Singers Jay Chou (周杰倫) and Jolin Tsai (蔡依林) last night appeared at the 24th Golden Melody Awards ceremony — the nation’s most prestigious music awards — at the Taipei Arena, along with a host of other stars, drawing huge crowds.
As of press time, awards had gone to The Great Artist (大藝術家) from Tsai’s album MUSE for Song of the Year, O Kai a Capella for Best Group Singers, and Chiao An-pu (焦安溥), more widely known as Deserts Chang (張懸), for Best Lyrics for Rose-colored Glasses (玫瑰色的你) from the album Games We Play.
The Best Hakka Singer Award was given to Tito Tang (湯宇歆) for his work on Antipodes, and the Best Hakka Album Award was given to Dark White-collar Workers’ (黑暗白領階級) album The Way Home (回家的路).

The Best Aboriginal Singer Award was given to Sangpuy (盧皆興), and the Best Aboriginal Album Award was given to O Kai a Capella.
Muh Chen (陳奕仁) was given the Best Musical Video Award for his work on the musical video used in Mayday’s (五月天) song Bottoms Up (乾杯) from the album Second Round.
China’s Chang Shilei (常石磊) won the Best Music Arranger Award with his work on the album Gaia.
The Best Instrumental Composer Award, Best Instrumental Record Producer Award, and Best Instrumental Album Award were given to Chen Sino (陳欣若), Daniel Ho and Baby C (鍾興民) respectively.
Late Taiwanese pop diva Fong Fei-fei (鳳飛飛) posthumously recieved the Special Contributions Award.
A video and recording made by Fong’s relatives was played at the ceremony expressing the wish that Fong could have been there in person to collect the award.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications yesterday said that it would redesign the written portion of the driver’s license exam to make it more rigorous. “We hope that the exam can assess drivers’ understanding of traffic rules, particularly those who take the driver’s license test for the first time.
