HTC Corp (宏達電), a Taiwan-based smartphone brand, has revealed that it is to launch its next-generation mid-range model on its official Chinese microbloging site, the phone to succeed the HTC One A9.
While HTC did not disclose details about the next model, market analysts said that the new mid-range model could be the HTC One X9.
Last month, market speculators said that the HTC One X9 has been certified by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as part of the smartphone maker’s efforts to penetrate the Chinese market.
Market sources said that the HTC One X9 would look similar to the HTC One A9, with a metal case and two color choices — silver or gray.
The new model is expected to feature the latest MediaTek Inc (聯發科) processor, a 5.5-inch screen, and a 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, which automatically minimizes hand-shake and corrects vibrations to take clearer photographs, the sources said.
Sources said the new model is expected to retail for less than US$500 and could hit the international market in the first quarter of next year.
HTC is expected to launch the HTC One M10 and HTC One A10 next year. It could also add the HTC One X series to its product line at that time, the sources said.
The company saw its sales last month rise 15 percent from a month earlier to NT$10.29 billion (US$312 million), a record six-month high.
HTC shares gained 0.83 percent to close at NT$73.10 in Taipei Trading yesterday.
