The average monthly salary for local office workers with five years experience reached NT$32,850 (US$976) this year, with people in information technology and sciences topping the list with an average salary of NT$36,874, according to a survey by 1111 Job Bank.
The results show that the average salary for new office workers this year represented a growth of 9 percent over NT$30,207 registered last year.
The survey, conducted between May 20 and Oct. 20, received 7,374 valid responses with a margin of error of 1.1 percent.
Meanwhile, statistics compiled by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics show that the average salary of all workers in Taiwan was NT$35,590 as of August this year, a slight growth over last year's NT$35,333.
The survey also shows that workers in the commercial consulting sector earned the second-largest average monthly salary at NT$35,440, with media and advertising workers receiving the third-largest average salary of NT$33,532.
The average salary for the retail industry was at the bottom of the list at NT$28,601.
Newcomers in the job market received an average of NT$25,129 for their first jobs this year, a slight growth over NT$25,070 last year.
The figure is much lower than the NT$40,000 earned by most South Korean college graduates, NT$58,000 by Japanese graduates and NT$140,817 by US graduates.

Power supply and electronic components maker Delta Electronics Inc (台達電) yesterday said it plans to ship its new 1 megawatt charging systems for electric trucks and buses in the first half of next year at the earliest.
