Stepping beyond the sluggish desktop market, Apple Computer Inc on Tuesday introduced a computer server based on the UNIX platform. Apple admittedly has little experience in the server market. Called the Xserve, the rack-mountable server starts at US$2,999 for a 1-gigahertz G4 processor model with 256 megabytes of memory. A dual-processor model with 512 MB of memory costs US$3,999. The company said it will ship the product beginning next month. The idea of an Apple server grew after the company last year introduced its newest operating system, Mac OS X, which is based on UNIX. The company plans to use existing reseller distribution channels to sell the product. Apple has attempted to sell servers before but the products failed.

More than 500 people on Saturday marched in New York in support of Taiwan’s entry to the UN, significantly more people than previous years. The march, coinciding with the ongoing 79th session of the UN General Assembly, comes close on the heels of growing international discourse regarding the meaning of UN Resolution 2758. Resolution 2758, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1971, recognizes the People’s Republic of China (PRC) as the “only lawful representative of China.” It resulted in the Republic of China (ROC) losing its seat at the UN to the PRC. Taiwan has since been excluded from
