Polygamy marks GOP hopeful's family history

FAMILY LIFE Republican candidate Mitt Romney had to address the former Mormon practice of multiple spouses because his great-grandfather was married to five women


Under government pressure, in 1890 Mormon President Wilford Woodruff issued "The Manifesto," in which he declared the Church no longer taught or permitted plural marriages. Nonetheless, the law of polygamy remains in the church's Doctrine and Covenants.
