The majority of London-based newspapers Saturday predicted a bleak future for the peace process.
"The Good Friday Agreement has taken a battering," The Times said in an editorial, calling the current situation a stalemate.
The Daily Telegraph said the peace agreement "has now reached the end of the line."
"Instead of encouraging cross-community collaboration, it has driven the two traditions back onto themselves ... Instead of rewarding moderation, it has encouraged fundamentalism," the right-wing daily said in an editorial.
