Liberian refugee camps overflowing

FLEEING VIOLENCE Around a fifth of the residents of the capital Monrovia have sought refuge in camps that are perilously lacking in supplies of food and water

Everyone in one voice said they were tired of bearing the brunt of the war, which started four years ago and has turned Liberia into one of the world's poorest nations. Liberia suffered a brutal seven-year conflict earlier.

"The rebels say they are fighting President Taylor. But Mr. Taylor and his family are doing fine. It is we who are suffering," said Elizabeth Francis.

"We can't go on no more," she added.
