Tax revenues from stock transactions in April increased by 62.1 percent, or NT$3.5 billion, to NT$9.1 billion from the same period of last year, mainly because of the recovery in global stock markets, the Ministry of Finance said in the monthly tax revenue report released yesterday.
The ministry statistics also showed that monthly land value incremental tax revenues grew to NT$5.7 billion in April, an increase of 37.3 percent, or NT$1.5 billion, from a year ago.
The ministry attributed the increase in tax revenues to the booming property market after the government cut the land value incremental tax in half in February.
For the first four months, the tax revenues from stock transactions rose by 28.4 percent from the previous year to NT$2.3 billion, the ministry said.
But during the same period, the nation's total tax revenues fell 24.2 percent year-on-year to NT$329.5 billion, with income tax revenues recording the biggest drop, 60.4 percent, to NT$108.9 billion, the ministry said.
