A Taiwanese hairdresser was presented on Sunday with one of the top prizes at a hairdressing photographic and presentation competition organized by the Association Internationale Presse Professionnelle Coiffure (AIPP, International Professional Hairdressing Magazines Association).
Marvin Lin (林豈義), winner of the Best Photography Award at the 2015-2016 AIPP Awards Ceremony in London, is the first hairdresser from Asia to win the award.
Lin said that in the 15 years of his career as a hairdresser, it has always been his dream to win an AIPP award, adding that he was very surprised and moved when he was announced as one of the winners last month.

Lin said he submitted six photographs selected from more than 1,000 in the competition. Taken in Taipei on June 1 and based on the theme “zen,” the photos feature four models with traditional Chinese landscape paintings in the background, he said.
The movement and stillness presented in the photos reflect his pursuit of perfection over the years, Lin said.
He said the award is an honor for himself and a recognition of Taiwan’s hairdressing industry.

COLD FACTS: ‘Snow skin’ mooncakes, made with a glutinous rice skin and kept at a low temperature, have relatively few calories compared with other mooncakes Traditional mooncakes are a typical treat for many Taiwanese in the lead-up to the Mid-Autumn Festival, but a Taipei-based dietitian has urged people not to eat more than one per day and not to have them every day due to their high fat and calorie content. As mooncakes contain a lot of oil and sugar, they can have negative health effects on older people and those with diabetes, said Lai Yu-han (賴俞含), a dietitian at Taipei Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. “The maximum you can have is one mooncake a day, and do not eat them every day,” Lai
