Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairperson Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) yesterday said during a meeting with Kin Moy, director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), that the party would continue to maintain close communication with the US.
Tsai welcomed Moy, who assumed his post in June, and said the DPP would continue to communicate with the US and promote overall relations in regard to trade and security, according to a DPP news release.
Tsai, the party’s presidential candidate, said that her priorities, if she is elected president next year, are to find new momentum for Taiwan’s economic development, ensure the diversification of its trade and create favorable conditions for Taiwan’s participation in regional economic integration.
During the process, Taiwan would increase industrial cooperation with the US, as well as technology exchanges, to find new opportunities for mutual investment, she said.
On security issues, Tsai said the US is Taiwan’s most important partner, especially in terms of regional and cross-strait relations. The party will continue to engage in close dialogue and exchanges with the AIT to ensure that both sides have seamless communication on key issues, she said.
On the presidential and legislative elections slated for Jan. 16 next year, Tsai said the party will continue to unveil its policies on governance and enhance communication with civic groups and people of all walks of life to seek recognition and support for the party.
