To drum up business during the summer season, 19 major amusement parks are teaming up to offer special promotions and activities to tourists.

In collaboration with the Tourism Bureau, the parks are launching the Summer Holiday Fun program, which gives visitors the chance to win a total of more than NT$1 million (US$33,320) in prize money.

From now until Aug. 31, park visitors can get one ticket for the lottery draw for each park admission ticket they purchase. Five draws will be held over the next two months, each with a top prize of NT$100,000, event organizers said.

The nation’s amusement parks received 2.3 million visits last summer, said Chen Kuei-hua (陳貴華), head of the bureau’s domestic travel division.

“We expect that number to grow by 10 percent to 2.5 million by the end of this summer,” Chen said.

Meanwhile, hotels are also looking to boost visitor numbers by offering special promotions aimed at families with children in tow.

The Ambassador Hotel Taipei and the Miramar Garden Taipei hotel are offering a “Meet the Little Mermaid” package this summer.

The deal includes family accommodation at the hotel and a free ticket to the Kidsburgh’s “Home of the Little Mermaid” at the Core Pacific Living Mall in Taipei, which is an underwater-themed playground covering an entire floor.

The Grand Hi-Lai Hotel in Greater Kaohsiung is offering the “Hello Kitty Pink Dream Vacation” package. Guests can stay in special Hello Kitty suites featuring furniture, bedding and toiletries decked out in pink images of the iconic cartoon cat.

The package also comes with a Hello Kitty transport, a correspondingly themed breakfast and gifts of limited-edition Hello Kitty dolls, the hotel said.

In Hualien County, the Silks Place Taroko hotel is betting on a swimming pool filled with inflatable animals such as dolphins, whales, sharks and rubber duckies to draw families.
