The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) yesterday said it would hold a series of speeches this month and next on university campuses as part of a campaign to bridge distance with young people.

DPP Department of Youth Development director Chang Chi-chang (張基長) said Chairman Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) is scheduled to deliver a speech on Saturday at the National Taipei University of Technology, one at the Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science on Nov. 20 and at the TransWorld University early next month.

Aside from sharing his political career experience, Su will also address various issues facing the vocational school system.

The party will also hold camps titled “Angry! Bird Generation?” (憤怒!鳥世代?) in Greater Kaohsiung on Nov. 24 and Nov. 25 and in Taipei on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 for people aged 18 to 30 interested in participating in public affairs.

Meanwhile, former premier Frank Hsieh’s (謝長廷) spokesman Lin He-ming (林鶴明) said Hsieh’s “Taiwan Shadow Government” will hold events on Nov. 17 and Nov. 18 in Taipei at the Tianmu Convention Center (the National Training Institute of Farmers’ Organizations) in which young people who are interested in public affairs are invited to attend.

Hsieh is also scheduled to give speeches at Tamkang University and Shih Hsin University later this month on cross-strait relations and the effects of the economic downturn on young people’s future, Lin said.
