Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen (½²^¤å) yesterday described President Ma Ying-jeou¡¦s (°¨^¤E) national day speech as a ¡§compilation of his previous empty rhetoric,¡¨ saying that what the public wanted were ¡§actions and executions¡¨ that could turn governmental policies into reality.
Tsai made the comment at a summit meeting of the DPP administrators of seven cities and counties in southern Taiwan held in Kaohsiung. She did not participate in the National Day celebrations that took place earlier in the day in front of the Presidential Office.
At the Kaohsiung event, Tsai said that although many people had focused on whether she and DPP legislators would attend the National Day festivities, she believed the issue was relatively unimportant.
The most important issue was ¡§whether President Ma has the ability to rule the country, whether he is determined to safeguard his own country and whether he recognizes Taiwan as an independent sovereign country,¡¨ she said.
