The mercury is expected to drop to around 11oC in northern and eastern Taiwan over the weekend with the approach of a new cold snap caused by a continental arctic air mass, the Central Weather Bureau said yesterday.
The next cold snap is expected to hit the nation tomorrow, bringing further cold and wet weather to central, northern and eastern Taiwan until Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to drop to 11oC and 12oC in central and northeastern parts.
Another arctic air mass is forecast to approach Taiwan around Wednesday, Lunar New Year's Eve, meteorologists said.
The cold air could bring down temperatures to as low as 9oC in the north, they said.
Residents in northern and northeastern areas should also expect wet days, while the mountainous areas in central, eastern, southern and southeastern Taiwan will have sporadic rain, forecasters said.
