Cabinet Spokesman Shieh Jhy-wey (謝志偉) filed a breach of trust lawsuit against Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) presidential candidate Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) for allegedly lying about a transaction involving three companies previously owned by the party, CNA reported yesterday.
Ma -- then KMT chairman -- said on Dec. 26, 2005, that the KMT had sold the Broadcasting Corporation of China (BCC, 中廣公司), China Television Co (CTV, 中視) and the Central Motion Picture Corp (中央電影公司) to China Times Group (中時集團) subsidiary Jungli Investment Co (榮麗投資公司) in a NT$9.3 billion (US$281.6 million) deal, Shieh said.
Ma made the announcement in response to a law passed in 2003 that prohibits the government and political parties from investing in private radio or TV stations, Shieh said.
However, Ma's statement was untrue, Shieh said, as eventually only CTV became a member of the China Times Group.
He called it a "fake transaction" and sued Ma for breach of trust.
Shieh also sued KMT Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung (吳伯雄), China Times Group president Albert Yu (余建新), former BCC president Jaw Shaw-kong (趙少康) and Hua Hsia Investment Holding Co (華夏投資公司) chairman Chen Ming-hui (陳明暉).
