Lee Teng-hui concerned about `pro-China' regime

    By Chou Ming-hung
    STAFF REPORTER
    Tuesday, Jul 24, 2007, Page 3

Former president Lee Teng-hui (§õµn½÷) said yesterday he was concerned that Taiwan may face a crisis if a "pro-China" regime wins next year's presidential election.

Lee made the remarks in a discussion with Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) legislators who paid him a visit in Taoyuan yesterday.

Lee said the next Taiwanese president would have to face great pressure from China, but if a "pro-China" regime wins, there would be a major impact on Taiwan's sovereignty.

Only by uniting the major forces in Taiwan could such a crisis be avoided, he said, adding that he believed the TSU and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) could successfully coordinate with each other to win next year's legislative poll.

Lee urged the TSU to be patient with the DPP and not to give up on pan-green cooperation.
