    KMT to change league rules
The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) yesterday announced it would limit the members of its youth league to students between the ages of 15 and 40. The move has attracted opposition from some youth league members who are not students, accusing the party of making the changes without discussing the issue with the league. According to a story in the Chinese-language Liberty Times (the Taipei Times' sister paper) yesterday, about 500 members may leave the league to protest against the party's decision. They also urged the league's head, Lin Yi-shih (林益世), to leave the post to shoulder responsibility for the change in membership requirements. In response, Lin said it was the league's proposal to limit the members to students. KMT Spokesman Su Jun-pin (蘇俊賓) yesterday did not confirm the number of members who reportedly want to leave.

    DPP plans punishment
The Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) Central Standing Committee yesterday resolved to punish party members who did not fulfill their share of the signature quota assigned by the party in its attempt to hold a referendum on recovering the Chinese Nationalist Party's (KMT) stolen assets. Although the party achieved its goal of collecting 1.4 million signatures last month, the party still decided to refer 10 members who did not garner enough signatures to the party's Central Disciplinary Committee, DPP Secretary-General Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said. Party officials were assigned signature quotas between 3,000 and 5,000 when the party began the campaign last November.
