Ministers from several denominations left for Uganda on Sunday to gain a better understand of the east African country which has been seriously affected by hunger and AIDS, a spokesman for World Vision Taiwan said yesterday.

The delegation is being led by World Vision Taiwan president Tu Ming-han (杜明翰). The group will learn about several of the charity's projects in northern Uganda, including AIDS prevention and landmine prevention, as well as water resource and public health plans.

The delegation will also visit churches and help deliver food.

The spokesman said the Ugandan trip is part of an international campaign called "30 hour famine" which the organization has participated in for the last 18 years. The campaign not only helps locals and foreigners in need, it also educates young Taiwanese and nurtures their compassion, he said.

The charity will sponsor concerts on June 8 in Taipei, June 15 in Taichung and June 16 in Kaohsiung to raise funds for the "30 hour famine" campaign.
