    Taiwan Quick Take: Russian wins contest

    A Chinese and Taiwanese speech contest for foreigners was staged yesterday, featuring some 60 contestants from 10 countries. The contest, held at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), was hosted by Rotary International Club chapter in Taipei. First, second and third place winners at the event were awarded cash prizes of NT$20,000 (US$609), NT$15,000 and NT$10,000, respectively. Ten other runners-up received NT$2,000 each. The contestants were members of the Rotary International Club and students from NTNU, National Taiwan University (NTU), Chinese Culture University and National Chengchi University. Anya Stets, a Russian student at NTU, took the grand prize with her speech about her Taiwanese friends, delivered in Mandarin Chinese.
