The 12th typhoon of this year, Ioke, formed in the West Pacific Ocean yesterday, according to the Central Weather Bureau. As of 2pm yesterday, the center of the typhoon was located approximately 1,130km southeast of the Wake Island. It was moving westward at a speed of 16kph. The bureau said that the typhoon is still very far away and is unlikely to affect Taiwan at this point, but added that it will closely monitor if there is any change in its movement. Cloudy to sunny skies are forecast for today in Taiwan, Kinmen, Matsu and Penghu. Thunderstorms are expected in central Taiwan, as well as the mountainous areas in the northern and southern regions.
