The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) held an inauguration ceremony for the incoming Minister Tsai Duei (蔡堆) yesterday, in which Tsai exchange official seals with outgoing minister Kuo Yao-chi (郭瑤琪). Minister without Portfolio Lin Si-yao (林錫耀) praised Kuo for her accomplishments during her time as minister, particularly the official opening of the Hsuehshan Tunnel. He said construction had been stalled in February because of an issue with a contractor who was in charge of the core mechanical system, but Kuo managed to restart construction and promised the premier that the tunnel would be able to officially open in June. “Kuo is a superwoman. She is tough,” Lin said. “Her resignation is a loss to the nation, the government as well as public.” Lin added that he believed Tsai was fully capable of serving in his new position and leading a ministry that was often considered as a problematic institution. Tsai promised to execute each policy according to the law.
