Monday, Jul 10, 2006, Page 3
The number of cases involving new immigrant women asking for legal help from the non-profit Legal Aid Foundation has risen precipitously in recent years, according to the head of the foundation's Tainan branch. Most of the foreign spouses have sought the foundation's help to acquire the right to bring up their children born to Taiwanese husbands, Wu Hsin-hsien (吳信賢) said. According to Wu, 13 foreign spouses filed for help with the foundation's Tainan branch in the second half of 2004, a figure that rose to 70 last year and 21 in the first five months of this year.
