Taiwan Quick Take: DPP may dissolve factions

    Tuesday, Jul 04, 2006, Page 3

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Wang Hsing-nan (王幸男) would propose the dissolution of the party's long-existing factions during the national convention on July 15 and 16, DPP spokesman Tsai Huang-liang (蔡煌瑯) said. Tsai said that the party was studying the feasibility of Wang's proposal and would work implement it if members agreed to this significant change to the party's structure during the national convention. Tsai pointed out that the co-existence of many different factions within the DPP was part of the party's culture. However, this has also become an issue that outsiders have taken advantage of to attack the party. Therefore, the DPP would not avoid discussing the issue whether it should disband the internal factions during the upcoming national convention, Tsai said.
