The Taipei-based China Youth Corps (CYC) is organizing a summer camp in Xiamen for children of China-based Taiwanese businesspeople, a CYC source said yesterday.
The summer camp will be held in Xiamen from today to Thursday under the co-sponsorship of the CYC Kinmen Operations, as well as a Taiwanese businesspeople association and a Taiwanese society based in Xiamen.
It would mark the first time that the CYC has hosted a summer camp in China.
A total of 45 children, ranging in age from 11 to 15, are expected to take part in the camp, said Chang Hua-pao (張華葆), executive director of the CYC Kinmen Operations.
The summer camp is being organized in a bid to provide a healthy and educational recreational retreat for the children of Taiwanese businesspeople during the long summer break, Chang said.
Eight students from the National Kinmen Institute of Technology have been trained to be teachers at the camp, Chang said.
Chang added that a CYC supervisor led the group to Xiamen a couple of days ago for the launch of the unprecedented CYC summer camp.
The camp activities will include group dancing and singing, an art class, a wilderness venture and a bonfire party, according to Chang.
