The construction of a new American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) office building is expected to be completed three years as more funding is being arranged, the institute said yesterday in a press release. The statement came as an apparent response to a report by the Chinese-language Apple Daily newspaper, which reported on June 19 that AIT would halt the construction of its new building in Neihu because of insufficient funding. AIT said the construction works such as erosion control installation, landscaping to prevent soil erosion and building a fence surrounding the perimeter of the property, have been proceeded since the office signed a lease with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the US (TECRO) in December 2004.
