Taiwan Quick Take: Crackdown on illegals
Friday, Apr 14, 2006, Page 3
The National Police Agency (NPA) and the Council of Labor Affairs have launched a crackdown on illegal foreign workers, a spokesman for the police said on Wednesday. He said the action was aimed at protecting the rights of legal employers whose interests are being harmed by illegal brokers, employers and workers. He said foreign workers who have left their jobs are often exploited by their new employers. The NPA urged legal foreign workers not to be tempted by illegal jobs and urged employers not to hire illegal foreign workers, warning that doing so could lead to fines of up to NT$750,000.
