Wang pressed to support budget for anti-graft body

Legislative speaker Wang Jin-pyng (王金平) should do more to ensure next year's budget for the Black Gold Investigation Center is passed, party lawmakers urged yesterday.

"Wang should prevail on opposition lawmakers to approve the center's budget to comply with his view that the government needs to do more to eradicate `black gold politics,'" said Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Chen Chin-de (陳金德).

The center was set up in 2000 to tackle corruption in politics, or so-called "black gold politics." The center set up four divisions in Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung.

DPP Legislator Chiu Tai-san (邱太三) suggested that Wang should back the proposed institutionalization of the task force, which will crack down on illegal collaboration between politicians and gangsters.
