More than two-thirds of soldiers discharged from their military service have problems finding a job, a poll released yesterday showed.
The survey also found that over 30 percent of those polled approved of the idea of allowing conscripts to do their service in the industrial sector rather than in the military.

It found that over 68 percent of the people surveyed said it was hard to find a job after completing their military service. About 21 percent of those questioned said that it was not hard.
Of those who found a job, almost 85 percent said that the job does not have anything to do with or has little to do with their major.
The report also found that over 33 percent of the people polled spent more than five months finding a job, while about 27 percent spent three to four months and approximately 22 percent spent one to two months.
Over 52 percent of the unemployed ex-servicemen said that the compulsory military service is partly to blame for their unemployment.

Taiwan-Japan Travel Passes are available for use on public transit networks in the two countries, Taoyuan Metro Corp said yesterday, adding that discounts of up to 7 percent are available. Starlux Airlines, Taiwan’s newest international carrier, has announced it would apply to join the Oneworld global airline alliance before the end of next year. In an investor conference on Monday, Starlux Airlines chief executive officer Glenn Chai (翟健華) said joining the alliance would help it access Taiwan. Chai said that if accepted, Starlux would work with other airlines in the alliance on flight schedules, passenger transits and frequent flyer programs. A new tropical storm formed late yesterday near Guam and is to approach closest to Taiwan on Thursday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. Tropical Storm Pulasan became the 14th named storm of the year at 9:25pm yesterday, the agency said. As of 8am today, it was near Guam traveling northwest at 21kph, it said.
