Jason Heyward homered for the third consecutive game, while Kolten Wong added a two-run shot as the St Louis Cardinals topped the Miami Marlins 6-1 on Wednesday night.
Heyward hit a three-run homer, his ninth homer of the season, in the seventh to blow the game open. The Cardinals had just one hit in the first six innings against Miami starter Mat Latos (2-5), that hit being Wong’s ninth home run of the season in the third.
Jaime Garcia (3-3) allowed one run in seven innings for the Cardinals, lowering his ERA to 1.69. Garcia singled and eventually scored in the eighth, but grimaced and began to limp shortly before crossing the plate. He came out of the game.

In Boston, David Ortiz’s two-run homer capped a five-run sixth inning as Boston beat Baltimore, despite losing two key starters to injuries.
Left fielder Hanley Ramirez left with a bruised left hand and second baseman Dustin Pedroia limped off after his tiebreaking, two-run single with tightness in his right hamstring.
It was Boston’s fifth win in eight games and snapped their six-game losing streak to the Orioles.
Baltimore lost for just the fourth time in their past 16.
Clay Buchholz (5-6) worked seven solid innings, giving up one run on eight hits, striking out seven and walking one. Junichi Tazawa struck out the side in the eighth before Koji Uehara got the final three outs.

In San Francisco, Buster Posey hit his second grand slam in five games as the Giants beat San Diego.
Posey hit his 11th home run of the season on a 2-2 pitch from San Diego starter Ian Kennedy (4-6) with two outs in the third inning. That came two batters after Joe Panik’s sacrifice fly drove in Andrew Susac.
It was Posey’s fourth career grand slam. The Giants’ All-Star catcher also hit one against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday last week.
