AMERICAN LEAGUE
Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera doubled and scored during a snowy eighth-inning rally that lifted the Tigers a 5-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.
Cabrera was driven home by Prince Fielder’s tiebreaking single amidst the snow flurries. Jhonny Peralta added a sacrifice fly later in the inning and Gerald Laird’s RBI single gave the Tigers a three-run lead.

Reliever Phil Coke (1-0) pitched the eighth to take the win for the Tigers, who are the AL’s last unbeaten team.
BLUE JAYS 7, RED SOX 3
In Toronto, Kyle Drabek pitched into the sixth inning to steer Toronto past Boston.
Drabek (1-0) yielded one run in 5-1/3 innings, retiring nine straight in one stretch.
Edwin Encarnacion homered for the Blue Jays.
Boston dropped to 1-4, another slow start for a team that opened last season with six straight losses. Starter Daniel Bard allowed five runs in five-plus innings.
RANGERS 1, MARINERS 0
In Arlington, Texas, Neftali Feliz pitched seven crisp innings in his first major league start, leading Texas past Seattle.
Feliz (1-0) was pitching for the first time since the former closer failed to hold a two-run lead in Game 6 of the World Series last year.
Mike Adams pitched a perfect eighth inning and Joe Nathan did the same in the ninth for his second save.
David Murphy drove in the only run with an RBI single in the second inning.
Mariners starter Blake Beavan (0-1) gave up six hits in 6-1/3 innings.
ROYALS 3, ATHLETICS 0 (7)
In Oakland, California, Danny Duffy pitched six scoreless innings to lead Kansas City past Oakland in a rain-shortened game.
Duffy (1-0) struck out eight in his first game of the season.
Mike Moustakas hit an RBI double in the fourth and Mitch Maier added a solo homer in the seventh for the Royals.
The start of the game was delayed 43 minutes by rain and steady drizzle continued throughout. A second delay was called after Eric Hosmer struck out in the top of the eighth during a downpour. The bat slipped out of his hands and landed just above the steps in the Royals dugout. The game officially called at 11:07pm.
Oakland starter Graham Godfrey (0-1) gave up two runs and six hits in six innings.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
AP, CINCINNATI, OHIO
St Louis’ Carlos Beltran and David Freese homered again on Tuesday, leading the Cardinals to a 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds.
Beltran, earmarked as the man to provide the power after the departure of Albert Pujols, hit his third homer of the new season off Mike Leake (0-1). Freese, last year’s World Series MVP, added a two-run shot — also his third.
St Louis came into the game leading the majors with nine homers. They have five in their first two games at Great American Ball Park.
Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse (2-0) provided a another stingy performance, allowing one run in six innings. The team’s rotation has been sensational so far, with a combined ERA of 1.86.
NATIONALS 6, METS 2
In New York, Ross Detwiler pitched five scoreless innings as Washington inflicted New York’s first loss.
Detwiler (1-0) struck out six and walked one.
Ian Desmond homered off Mets starter Dillon Gee (0-1) leading off the game and Jayson Werth had four of the Nationals’ 13 hits and drove in a run.
New York said during the game that third baseman David Wright has a broken right little finger, but will not need surgery and will return when pain-free.
DODGERS 2, PIRATES 1
In Los Angeles, Andre Ethier hit a tiebreaking homer with two outs in the eighth inning, sending Los Angeles to victory over Pittsburgh in their home opener.
Exactly 50 years after Dodger Stadium opened, Ethier hit a solo shot on his 30th birthday, off Jason Grilli (0-1).
Los Angeles reliever Kenley Jansen (1-0) pitched the eighth and Javy Guerra the ninth for his third save.
The game ended when Andrew McCutchen grounded into a game-ending double play.
BREWERS 7, CUBS 4
In Chicago, Alex Gonzalez hit a three-run homer in Milwaukee’s five-run first inning, setting up the Brewers’ win over Chicago.
The Brewers sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning against Paul Maholm (0-1).
Milwaukee starter Chris Narveson (1-0) pitched five innings to improve to 7-1 with a 3.52 ERA in 14 career games against Chicago. He allowed two earned runs.
Diamondbacks 4, Padres 2 (11)
In San Diego, California, Chris Young hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning as Arizona edged San Diego and remained undefeated.
After Micah Owings (0-1) hit leadoff batter Gerardo Parra, Young sent the next pitch into the stands.
Diamondbacks starter Craig Breslow (1-0) pitched a perfect 10th inning to earn the victory against his former team, lifting Arizona to their first 4-0 start. The Diamondbacks are the only unbeaten team in the NL.
J.J. Putz gave up a leadoff single but then retired the next three batters in the bottom of the 12th for his third save in three chances.
