Miki Ando of Japan won the ladies title at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships yesterday, defeating reigning world champion Mao Asada.
Ando perfectly executed all of her jumps in the free skating program, including a triple lutz and double loop, to score a total of 201.34 points.
She already had a narrow lead after Saturday’s short program, in which she wowed the crowd with the kind of form that made her the world champion in 2007.
Her compatriot, Asada, finished second with 196.30 points, while Mirai Nagasu of the US was third with 189.46 points.
Ando’s victory gave Japan a clean sweep of the Four Continents singles titles after Daisuke Takahashi won his second men’s championship on Saturday.
The Four Continents is a warm-up for next month’s World Figure Skating Championships in Tokyo.
