Taiwan’s first Twenty20 cricket Southern League got under way on Saturday at Shinmin Road Baseball Ground in Chiayi.
The first game up was tournament favorites Taiwan Southerners Cricket Club (TSCC) and the Taichung Scunners.
Graham Terblanche was in fine form for TSCC, as his 83 set up a huge score of 229 all out in 19.5 overs. Jeff Black hit 25 and Roy Horgan 31 not out, while Kris Belling bowled with pace to take two for 32
The Scunners didn’t get close, replying with 84 all out.
Eric Clapton top scored with 21, while Justin Lambie was pick of the TSCC bowlers with three for 11 from two overs.
The second game of the day saw Tainan Swingers take on TSCC.
The Swingers could only field eight men and were put into bat, making 103 all out in 19.2 overs. Graham Terblanche took three for 12 and Ben Winmill took two for 25.
TSCC cruised to victory for the loss of only two wickets. Graham Terblache hit 51 not out, while Andrew Carrick scored 25 not out. Victor Ramojhan picked up two for 14.
The third game featuring the Scunners and the Swingers was reduced to 15 overs a side because of fading light.
The Scunners batted first and made 87 all out in 14 overs. Pick of the bowlers was Vijay Singh with three for 10.
Charl Villiers’ opening spell ripped the heart out of the Swingers batting and they only managed 54 all out in reply, Villiers taking five for 14.
The league continues next weekend with the Pakistan Badshahs entering the fray with games against the Scunners and TSCC. The final fixtures will be played the following weekend.
