The US defeated the Dominican Republic 10-1 on Monday to improve its unbeaten record to six wins in group play at the world softball championship.
Jennie Finch was the winning pitcher for the defending champion, which faced the Czech Republic yesterday in its final group match.
The quarter-finals are today, followed by the semi-finals on tomorrow and the final on Friday.
The US ended the group round yesterday against the Czech Republic.
The US was ensured victory and will be the top seed in Group B when the quarter-finals open.
As of Monday, the other top three teams in the group were: Venezuela (5-1), China (4-2) and Australia (4-2).
The US scored four runs in each of the first two innings and was never in trouble. Alissa Haber was 2-for-3 and is hitting a team-high .786 with 13 RBIs and nine runs scored.
Finch picked up her second victory in the tournament. She struck out four of the first six batters and allowed only one runner to reach base in the first three innings. That was through a walk.
Olympic champion Japan will be the top seed in Group A after retaining its unbeaten record with a 7-0 win over Britain.
The other top three teams in the group are: Canada (5-1), Taiwan (4-2) and the Netherlands (4-2). On Monday, Taiwan beat the Netherlands 6-3.
Japan closes its group play on Tuesday against South Africa.
In other results on Monday, Cuba blanked Argentina 5-0, Australia trounced New Zealand 10-0, Canada dominated South Africa 12-0, China beat the Czech Republic 8-1 and Venezuela shut out Botswana 10-0.
