Kyle Kendrick kept the New York Yankees guessing, Shane Victorino homered and Placido Polanco made a sprawling catch on Thursday night as the Philadelphia Phillies won 7-1.
The Phillies beat Andy Pettitte (8-2) and took two of three.
Shortly before the first pitch, the giant videoboard in center field blared highlights from Pettitte’s victory over Philadelphia at Yankee Stadium last November in the clinching Game 6 of the World Series.

But this was Kendrick’s night, from the moment he struck out leadoff man Derek Jeter. A day after 47-year-old lefty Jamie Moyer’s soft tosses bamboozled the Yankees, they had no luck timing the changeups from Kendrick (4-2).
Kendrick gave up four singles in seven innings and left with a 3-1 edge. The Phillies pulled away with a four-run ninth.

At Cleveland, Ohio, RA Dickey won his fifth straight start and the Mets stretched their winning streak to seven games.
Jose Reyes had three hits and scored twice for New York. Rookie Ike Davis drove in two runs.
The surging Mets have won 18 of 23 to go from last place to a half-game behind NL East-leading Atlanta. They have six consecutive road wins for the first time since a six-game run in August 2008, and have won a team-record eight in a row in interleague play.
Dickey (5-0) allowed three runs — two earned — and seven hits over six innings. Francisco Rodriguez struck out three in the ninth for his 15th save in 18 chances.

At Detroit, Michigan, Jeremy Bonderman threw seven sharp innings, Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila hit two-run doubles and Detroit earned its sixth consecutive win. Bonderman (3-4) gave up two runs and five hits.
Adam Dunn homered for Washington, and Cristian Guzman went 2 for 4 with an RBI single.

In Cincinnati, Ohio, Bronson Arroyo hit the first of Cincinnati’s three homers off of rookie John Ely, pitched seven innings and then was part of three double plays, setting up the victory over Los Angeles.
Arroyo’s three-run shot in the second inning made Ely (3-4) double over in disgust.
Joey Votto added a two-run homer, and Brandon Phillips had a solo shot.
