South Korea’s Ted Oh moved up two places to take the lead after recording a four-under 68 at the GS Caltex Maekyung Open yesterday.
Oh, who posted six birdies against two bogeys for a two-day total of eight-under 136 at the Nam Seoul Country Club, holds a slender one shot lead over fellow South Korean Park Hyo-won, who carded a 69 for a 137 total.
Kim Hyung-sung is third on 138, while Byun Jin-jae, Choi Sang-ho and overnight joint-leader S.K. Ho are tied for fourth on 139.
Son Joon-eob and Jeong Youn-jin are in tied-seventh place together with an Asian Tour contingent that included Singapore’s Lam Chih Bing, Juvic Pagunsan of the Philippines and Australia’s Scott Barr, who all posted matching 140s.
Oh, who started the day in tied-third, made a quick charge for the lead with three successive birdies from his opening 10th to 12th holes. The 32-year-old registered further birdies on the fourth, seventh and ninth, against another bogey on the eighth after the turn to eventually return home in 68.
However, with two more rounds to play at the Asian Tour event, the California-based Oh was guarding himself against complacency.
“I’ve been in this position before, where I was leading and I began to think too far ahead. I’m just going to go out there now and play like everyday is the first day and play what I did for the first two rounds,” said Oh, who is seeking his first win on the Asian Tour.
Second-placed Park is also eyeing victory and his first title in South Korea, having earlier taken a share of third place with Oh at the end of the first round.
Taiwan’s Lu Wei-chih shot a 76 to finish the two rounds on five-over 149, not good enough to make the cut. Compatriot Wang Ter-chang shot an 81 to finish even further back on 155, 11-over after two rounds.
The GS Caltex Maekyung Open is the ninth leg of this season’s Asian Tour and is also the second Asian Tour event in South Korea.

Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko upset top-seeded Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-4 on Saturday night to reach the National Bank Open quarter-finals. “Your support was incredible,” Mboko told the crowd in French after a chorus of “Ole, Ole, Ole” chants echoed around the venue. “I’m really happy to win today ... It’s incredible. I’m so happy to beat such a great champion.” Gauff dropped to 2-3 since winning the French Open. Jobe Bellingham on Tuesday admitted to having “anxieties” on following in brother Jude’s footsteps after joining Borussia Dortmund in the summer. Jobe Bellingham, 19, is two years younger than Jude Bellingham, who joined Real Madrid in 2023 after three years at Dortmund. A centerpiece of the England national team, Jude Bellingham has emerged as one of the best players in the world in recent seasons. The younger Jobe Bellingham joined Dortmund in June from Sunderland after their promotion to the English Premier League. He admitted he understood what the perception would be ahead of the move to Germany. “It’s something you do think about.
Before Tuesday’s 7-2 win at the Atlanta Braves, Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy suggested “most people couldn’t tell you five players on our team.” A look at the standings would indicate more Brewers players soon will be recognized by more fans. After all, it is difficult to overlook a team that not only continues to extend their lead in the National League Central, but also boasts the best record in the majors. “What we’re doing in here right now is special,” right-handed pitcher Freddy Peralta said after allowing only four hits and one run in five innings, while setting a career high with
