Lazio beat Juventus 2-1 at Turin’s Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday to reach their first Coppa Italia final since 2004 with a 4-2 aggregate victory.
A stunning strike from on-loan Argentina forward Mauro Zarate and a deflected effort from Serbian full-back Aleksandar Kolarov put Lazio in the driving seat before Alessandro Del Piero’s late consolation.
The match finished on a sour note for Juve as Mauro Camoranesi was sent off late on and the game was also marred by more ugly chanting by some Juve fans against Inter Milan’s black striker Mario Balotelli.

Lazio coach Delio Rossi said his side deserved their success.
“We deserve to be in the final. We knocked out AC Milan and Juve. This has been an up-and-down season,” he said. “This team has quality and it’s just being born. Zarate is learning to play for the team and we’re benefiting from that.”
Perhaps more concerned with finishing second in Serie A than reaching the Cup final, Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri made a number of changes to his starting line-up, even though the Old Lady of Turin were chasing a 2-1 first leg deficit.

Juve lined up with the unfamiliar center-back pairing of Olof Mellberg and Lorenzo Ariaudo while Del Piero, Pavel Nedved and Camoranesi all started on the bench.
Ranieri said afterwards that they would now concentrate on finishing second.
“We wanted to qualify for the final and we tried to win, but we didn’t manage it,” he said. “Now we have to continue to do well and try to secure that second place.”

Barcelona turned on the style again at Camp Nou on Wednesday, crushing Sevilla 4-0 to restore their six-point lead at the La Liga summit.
Real Madrid had closed to within three points with a morale-boosting, late 3-2 win over Getafe on Tuesday, but Barcelona show no signs of cracking under the pressure and destroyed third-placed Sevilla even without talisman Lionel Messi.
Real have been the experts of late goals this season, but Barcelona prefer seeing off teams with early goals and scored twice in the first 16 minutes to seize control.
Andres Iniesta scored a sensational opener after just two minutes before Samuel Eto’o struck his 27th goal of the campaign.
Xavi and Thierry Henry added second-half goals and Barcelona now have 92 goals for the season as they target Real’s all-time record of 107 set when they won the league title in 1990.
“We are going for everything this season,” Iniesta said. “We played well tonight, scored good goals and got the points. We have difficult games against Valencia and Chelsea coming up so we can’t relax and have to keep on going.”
The win was all the more impressive as it was achieved without the magical Messi, who was left out after being unable to train due to stomach pains.
The pressure is now on Atletico and Villarreal, lying joint sixth six points behind Valencia, with Atletico at Racing Santander yesterday, while Villarreal were to entertain Recreativo Huelva.

Goalkeeper Tim Wiese held his nerve to make three consecutive saves as Werder Bremen beat 10-man Hamburg 3-1 on penalties in their German Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
Goals by Bremen’s Germany defender Per Mertesacker and Hamburg’s Bayern Munich-bound striker Ivan Olic had meant it was 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes, but home side Hamburg had captain David Jarolim sent off deep in injury time.
Both sides had their chances to win the game in extra-time, but Bremen goalkeeper Wiese was their hero of the hour with a brave save in the 120th minute before making the three crucial saves in the shootout.
“That was one of the best nights of my career,” said Wiese, whose team will now face Bayer Leverkusen in the final at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium on May 30. “We came here as underdogs and put in a great performance. You can’t ask for more.”
This was the first of four meetings between the two sides, who will meet each other twice in the UEFA Cup semi-finals over the next fortnight and then again in the Bundesliga on May 10.
“We played very well and defended well despite being out-numbered in extra-time,” Hamburg’s Germany winger Piotr Trochowski said. “Unfortunately, we were not rewarded for our hard work in the penalty shoot-out.”
In the Berlin final, Bremen will now face Bayer Leverkusen, who also needed extra-time to beat second-division side Mainz 4-1 on Tuesday.

A last-minute goal from Senegalese substitute Badara Sene gave 10-man Guingamp of the second division a 2-1 win over top flight Toulouse on Wednesday and a place in the French Cup final.
Guingamp will meet Rennes, who defeated Grenoble 1-0 on Tuesday, in the final.
Guingamp took the lead in the 28th minute through Dos Santos Eduardo before Andre-Pierre Gignac equalized in the 74th minute.
Richard Soumah had already been sent off for Guingamp in the 52nd minute for a second yellow card, but the red card only served to drive the outsiders ahead and grab the winner in the last minute.
Toulouse goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso was at fault when he failed to hold on to a stinging free-kick from Sene.
Guingamp coach Victor Zvunka said: “I am really happy and proud of my players because they won despite playing 10 against 11.”
The lights dimmed and the crowd hushed as Karoline Kristensen entered for her performance. However, this was no ordinary Dutch theater: The temperature was 80°C and the audience naked apart from a towel. Dressed in a swimsuit and to the tune of emotional music, the 21-year-old Kristensen started her routine, performed inside a large sauna, with a bed of hot rocks in the middle. For a week this month, a group of wellness practitioners, called “sauna masters,” are gathering at a picturesque health resort in the Netherlands to compete in this year’s Aufguss world sauna championships. The practice takes its name from a

Roger Federer on Wednesday said that staying involved with tennis in retirement helped him avoid feeling “like an alien” ahead of this week’s Laver Cup in Berlin. Federer, who helped create the tournament, retired at the Laver Cup in London two years ago and has since stayed involved with the competition as an ambassador. “I’m happy I went back right away to some tournaments,” the 43-year-old told reporters. “I feel I ripped the Band-Aid off quite quickly and when I walk around the tennis sites I still feel I belong there,” he said. “I don’t feel like an alien, which is a
Lewis Hamilton on Thursday said there was a “racial element” to International Automobile Federation (FIA) president Mohammed ben Sulayem’s recent comments regarding drivers swearing during Formula 1 races. In an interview with motorsport.com, Ben Sulayem said: “We have to differentiate between our sport — motorsport — and rap music” when referring to drivers having a responsibility to stop swearing on the radio. “We’re not rappers, you know,” Ben Sulayem said. Responding to those remarks ahead of tomorrow’s Singapore Grand Prix, seven-time champion Hamilton said: “With what he said, I don’t like how he has expressed it. Saying ‘rappers’ is very stereotypical.” “If you
