Sergei Samsonov scored his 200th NHL career goal as Carolina withstood a late rally to beat New Jersey 3-2 on Tuesday.
Ray Whitney and Tuomo Ruutu also scored for the Hurricanes, who extended their winning streak to a season-high four games. Cam Ward continued his recent surge for the Hurricanes, making 26 saves.

At Calgary, Alberta, Daymond Langkow scored two goals and Calgary surged past San Jose.
Calgary led 2-0 early on goals by Curtis Glencross and Langkow and had a 15-0 edge on shots before San Jose were able to direct their first shot on Miikka Kiprusoff, a bad angle wrist shot from Mike Grier at 16:51 of the first.
The Flames extended the lead to 3-0 late in the period on Mark Giordano’s power-play goal. Second-period goals by Ryane Clowe and Grier moved the Sharks to 4-2. David Moss had the other goal for Calgary.
