Fulham avoided a League Cup second round upset when Danny Murphy scored an injury time winner to see off League One rivals Leicester City 3-2 on Wednesday.
Zoltan Gera grabbed his first goal for the Cottagers in the 31st minute, but Leicester, eager for some good news following their relegation to the third tier division, stunned their hosts at the start of the second half.
Paul Dickov equalized immediately after the break and Andy King put Leicester ahead two minutes later.
It looked like that would be enough, but Jimmy Bullard — who has been linked with a move away from Fulham — leveled in the 83rd minute and Murphy let fly from 25m two minutes into added time to earn Roy Hodgson’s side an unlikely 3-2 victory.
Carlos Villanueva put in an impressive debut as Blackburn Rovers cruised into the third round with a 4-1 victory over Grimsby Town.
Tom Newey put the visitors into a shock lead by curling in a free-kick after only seven minutes, but Villanueva equalized after 18 minutes and by halftime it was 3-1, with Matt Derbyshire and Brett Emerton netting.
Derbyshire grabbed the fourth 10 minutes after the break and was only denied a hat-trick by an offside flag.
It looked like there would be an upset at the Galpharm Stadium when Michael Flynn gave League One Huddersfield Town the lead against Sheffield United.
It stayed that way until eight minutes from time, when Darius Henderson equalized and the turnaround was complete a minute later as substitute Kyle Naughton grabbed the winner to give the Blades a 2-1 victory.
Former winners Nottingham Forest went down 2-1 after extra-time to Premier league side Sunderland, while West Ham United also needed extra-time to see off League Two strugglers Macclesfield Town 4-1.
On Tuesday, League Two strugglers Rotherham United pulled off a shock when they defeated Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-3 on penalties following a 0-0 draw after extra-time.
