It has a population of 217 million people yet has only managed two gold medals at the Asian Games, and Indonesian politicians want to know why.
Its only two gold of the Games so far have come from badminton star Taufik Hidayat and Leonard Lalisang in bowling.
It also suffered the indignity over being stripped of an equestrian eventing bronze medal for a rider using illegal spurs.
In comparison, neighbor Singapore, with a population of just over 4 million, has won eight gold.
"The ranking of our sports achievement is less than satisfactory, but I don't want to point fingers," Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was quoted as saying by domestic media.
Indonesia's State Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs Adhyaksa Dault expressed concern over the poor showing after meeting national sportsmen in Doha on Wednesday.
"We will form a task force involving the National Sports Council, the State Ministry for Youth and Sports Affairs and sports associations to make a thorough evaluation of the Asian Games," Adhyaksa said.
Indonesia was one of 11 countries to participate at the first Asian Games in New Delhi in 1951, and is one of only 10 to have competed in all 15 Games.
It sent 131 athletes to Doha to compete in 20 sports.
