Hiroshi Hirao drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning yesterday to lift the Pacific League-leading Seibu Lions to a 9-8 win over the Daiei Hawks.
Hirao's single up the middle at Nagano Olympic Stadium allowed Kazuhiro Wada to score from second base with the winning run.
Wada hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning as the Lions jumped out to an early lead and rocked Daiei starter Tsuyoshi Wada for eight runs on six hits over 2-1/3 innings.
Seibu reliever Kiyoshi Toyoda picked up the win. Seibu opened up a 2-1/2-game lead over Daiei in the standings.
