Five-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong wrapped up the overall victory in the second annual Tour of Georgia on Sunday as Canada's Gord Fraser won the seventh and final stage.
Fraser won the 142.3km final stage in 3hr 20min 15sec. Armstrong, who finished 66th in the same time, claimed the overall victory in 25hr 39min 20sec for the six-day, 1,051km race.
"It's important," said Armstrong, whose main challenge this season is an attempt at a sixth Tour de France title. "It's always nice to win. It's also nice to come and meet some objectives like doing a good time trial, doing some climbs, working the team well. It was a complete week."
Armstrong said his showing here showed he was on schedule with his Tour preparations.
"Yeah, maybe even a little ahead of schedule," he said. "So, I'll have to adjust things and take a good bit of recovery after here, and so do the final gear-up, the final push for the Tour."
Germany's Jens Voigt was second overall, 24 seconds behind Armstrong. Last year's winner, American Chris Horner, was third overall, 1min 1sec behind.
Armstrong, who said before the race he wasn't quite sure of his conditioning at this early stage of the season, took control of the event on Thursday, when he won both the third stage and the individual time trial.
Armstrong said he was encouraged by the fans who turned out to cheer him on.
