Brian Boucher's record-setting shutout string came to an end, but he still stopped 20 of 21 shots to help the Phoenix Coyotes tie the Atlanta Thrashers 1-1 in National Hockey League play on Sunday.
Randy Robitaille fired a shot off the chest of defenseman David Tanabe at 6:16 of the first period to end Boucher's remarkable shutout string, the longest in the modern era of the league.
Boucher's scoreless streak lasted 332 minutes and one second, as he posted five consecutive shutouts during the streak. Boucher made 146 saves during his record span.
When the Thrashers scored, the sold-out crowd at the Coyotes' new Glendale Arena stood and applauded Boucher as the Phoenix players emptied their bench, coming on the ice to congratulate the goalie.
Boucher was the team's No. 3 goalie earlier this season and he could have been claimed by waivers by any other NHL team.
Only an injury to Zac Bierk allowed Boucher the chance to get some playing time, as he wasn't even practicing with the team until Bierk picked up an injury.
Despite finally giving up a goal, Boucher was again brilliant, robbing Ilya Kovalchuk twice late in the game, once in the third period and again in overtime.
Atlanta is now winless in seven games.
In other action, Robert Lang scored his 21st goal of the season late in the first period to lift the Capitals to a 1-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Washington.

In New York, Jassen Cullimore scored 2:03 into overtime to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 2-1 win over the Rangers.
Dan Boyle also scored and Cory Stillman picked up a pair of assists pushing the Lightning to their third straight win, while Alexei Kovalev scored for New York.
In Raleigh, Marian Hossa scored two powerplay goals to help the Ottawa Senators to a 2-2 tie with the Hurricanes.
Eric Staal and Erik Cole tallied and Kevin Weekes made 38 saves for the Hurricanes.
In Anaheim, Rick Nash scored his league-leading 24th goal of the season with a little more that five minutes remaining in the third period to help the Columbus Blue Jackets earn a 2-2 tie with the Mighty Ducks.
Nikolai Zherdev also scored for the Blue Jackets, while Vitaly Vishnevski and Todd Simpson scored for Anaheim.
In Chicago, Alex Tanguay scored in overtime to lift the Colorado Avalanche to a 5-4 win over the Blackhawks.
Steve Moore, Milan Hejduk, John-Michael Liles and Karlis Skrastins also scored to help the Avalanche rally from a 3-0 deficit after one period.
In Vancouver, Valeri Bure scored a pair of goals to lead the Florida Panthers to a 2-2 tie with the Canucks.
The lights dimmed and the crowd hushed as Karoline Kristensen entered for her performance. However, this was no ordinary Dutch theater: The temperature was 80°C and the audience naked apart from a towel. Dressed in a swimsuit and to the tune of emotional music, the 21-year-old Kristensen started her routine, performed inside a large sauna, with a bed of hot rocks in the middle. For a week this month, a group of wellness practitioners, called “sauna masters,” are gathering at a picturesque health resort in the Netherlands to compete in this year’s Aufguss world sauna championships.
