As the economy gradually recovers, one in three consumers in Taiwan is looking to pack his or her bags and head off for a vacation in the next six months, the latest survey by MasterCard showed yesterday.
The survey, which polled 10,503 consumers from 24 Asian economies between March 15 and April 12, found that 92 percent of Taiwanese respondents who wish to travel in the next six months were planning trips within the Asia-Pacific.
Japan (57 percent) and China (27 percent) remain the top two preferred destinations for Taiwanese travelers, while travelers from Hong Kong (34 percent) are the most likely to visit Taiwan in the next six months, followed by Singapore (24 percent) and China (20 percent), the survey showed.
“Intraregional travel continues to be popular among Taiwanese consumers, and China remains one of the top countries preferred by Taiwanese,” Ling Hai (淩海), executive vice president and general manager, Greater China, MasterCard Worldwide, said in the report.
About 40 percent of Taiwanese consumers are willing to save for international holidays within the next six months, compared with 50 percent in Hong Kong, 45 percent in New Zealand and 43 percent in the Philippines, the survey said.
Among the Asia-Pacific markets, Hong Kong (56 percent), Singapore (48 percent) and New Zealand (40 percent) boast the highest number of respondents planning to travel abroad, the survey said.
