Far East University ranked first among all universities and colleges in the nation in terms of number of patent applications and patent approvals last year, the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Intellectual Property Office (IPO) showed.
It marked the fifth-straight year that the Taipei County-based university finished at the top of the list in both categories.
Far East University applied for a total of 258 patents last year, ranking it first among all institutions of higher learning and 11th among all organizations, including companies, in Taiwan.
The university received a total of 78 patent approvals, ranking first among colleges and universities and 25th among all organizations in the country.
A total of 19 universities and colleges finished in the top 100 in Taiwan in terms of patent applications, up from just 13 the previous year, the IPO figures showed.
