A Taiwan-produced tea was given an innovative food award at the just-concluded Paris SIAL 2004 international food trade fair for its creative packaging and fortified anti-aging effects.

Thanks to the company's long-term marketing efforts, Yeh said, the various kinds of Lao Tsu teas, which come in cans, have made successful inroads into France, the UK and the Netherlands. Yeh said the company has traditionally focused on marketing its products at high-end European department stores.
During the SIAL trade fair, Yeh said, several French supermarket chains also expressed interest in selling Lao Tsu teas. Moreover, he added, the teas, including mint- and jasmine-flavored tea and white oolong tea, will soon be available in Belgium and Germany.
Yeh said that the company was scheduled to market its 250cc "Awakening" series of tea drinks as well as Wuhsing tea bags and green tea capsules in Europe next year.
Lao Tsu Tea Industrial Co was one of 26 Taiwan food processing companies that took part in this year's SIAL trade fair. They jointly set up a Taiwan pavilion at the show, attracting the attention of many large supermarket operators and food distributors.
Chu Ming-tao, director of the Taiwan Trade Center in Paris, said many trade fair visitors expressed interest in a variety of snack and health foods exhibited by Tai-wanese manufacturers, some of whom secured orders during the show. Chu said traditional foods and drinks can find a new lease on life with innovative packaging and marketing strategies.
Major Taiwanese agricultural products featured at the trade fair included butterfly orchids, sea bream, mangoes, pineapples and other fruits.
